Altar Servers
Altar Servers: Altar servers assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. Servers carry the cross at the processional, hold the book for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer, present the bread, wine, and water to the priest during the preparation of the gifts or assist him when he receives the gifts from the people, wash the hands of the priest, and assist the priest celebrant as necessary. They must know where items are located in the sacristy in case they are needed during a service. Altar servers at Guardian Angels are always vested; they should take care to dress appropriately for their ministry. Altar servers usually start in the fourth grade, but with the priest’s approval they may begin earlier if mature.
