Holy Orders
Holy Orders is the sacrament through which “the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time: thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry.” (CCC 1536)
Jesus chose the Twelve and shared His priesthood with them. Through the authority of the Church, that priesthood has been handed on for two thousand years. The priesthood is not a position of power, but a call to loving service, following the example of Christ who washed the feet of His disciples.
What is Holy Orders
Through Holy Orders, ordained men serve the Church as bishops, priests, and deacons.
- Priests carry on the ministry of Jesus through the sacraments
- They preach the Gospel and shepherd the people of God
- They strengthen the faithful to be light in the world
- They serve in humility, following Christ’s example
Jesus is our High Priest. Ordination is a call and gift from God. Those who respond generously echo the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8).
Are You Being Called
Vocation begins with prayer and listening. If you sense that God may be calling you to something more, you do not need to have everything figured out. The first step is simply a conversation.
- Men discerning the priesthood are encouraged to speak with a priest
- Men discerning the permanent diaconate may contact the Office of the Diaconate
- Men and women discerning religious life should speak with Rev. Ron Cattany, our pastor
God often reveals His will through prayer, trusted mentors, and the guidance of the Church.
