Confirmation

Sacraments

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism. In Confirmation, the baptized are sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit and strengthened to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

Through this sacrament, the Holy Spirit deepens our relationship with the Lord, unites us more firmly to the Church, and equips us to witness to the Gospel in word and action.

As the Catechism teaches, Confirmation increases and deepens baptismal grace. It roots us more deeply as sons and daughters of God, unites us more firmly to Christ, strengthens our bond with the Church, and gives us special strength to spread and defend the faith.

Confirmation is not a graduation from the Church. It is a commissioning. It is God strengthening us for mission.

What Confirmation Does

Through the laying on of hands and the anointing with Sacred Chrism, the candidate:

  • Is sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit
  • Is strengthened with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit
  • Is more firmly united to Christ and His Church
  • Is empowered to live and defend the Catholic faith

The same Holy Spirit who descended upon the Apostles at Pentecost continues to guide and strengthen the Church today.

PREPARING FOR CONFIRMATION

Preparation for Confirmation requires:

  • The child must be at least in the third grade
  • The candidate must be baptized
  • The candidate must have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation
  • The candidate’s family must be registered parishioners
  • Regular Sunday Mass attendance
  • Participation in scheduled preparation classes held on Wednesday evenings

At a minimum, regular Mass attendance on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation is expected. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith, and Confirmation strengthens us to live what we celebrate at Mass.

Parents remain the first and best teachers of their children in the faith. The parish assists and supports families in preparing candidates to receive this sacrament worthily and with understanding.

Confirmation Class Schedule
  • 3rd GRADE: Wednesday 6 – 7:15 pm
  • TEENS (Middle & High School): Sunday 5 – 6 pm (during the school year)
  • ADULTS: Monday 6:30 – 8 pm in Bakhita Hall

A Call to Holiness

Every confirmed Catholic is called to be a saint.

We encourage families to watch and reflect on the message “Be Saints” featuring Jim Caviezel, a powerful reminder that Confirmation strengthens us to live boldly for Christ.
